Please realize that this is NOT a National Detroit hog. Read the specifications and you will see that the RPM and air requirements are not the same at all. That being said, I think this is a good little machine. I had an ND for over 20 years and only needed to replace it when someone borrowed it and did not return it. My criticism of this would be the high air requirement (even with a big 5 HP and 60G industrial). It won’t really spin much under 90 psi. It will do a nice job however and I do like it. Great deal for the cost.Update, 7 years later: Going strong. Oil it DAILY when using! Have gotten to know it well and still think it is a good tool, especially for the price!

I guess Ingersoll Rand has a 38 year life cycle. I bought my first one of these in 1981 along with my first Ingersoll Rand long board and they both went out within about a month or two of each other. While I was only a processional body man for around 8 years I have used both tools extensively for side jobs and personal restoration projects since then. I would say they have paid for themselves many times over.

This thing is a beast. I typically run entry doors through a wide belt sander to clean them up, but i recently got a job for a 4 foot wide door… too wide to run through my sander. Opted for this as opposed to using our 5” orbital sanders to sand it all. It saved us hours of labor for only 130 bucks.Make sure you have sufficient air. This thing had my 120 gallon 15hp compressor cycling every two minutes or so with constant use. I might consider getting a thicker hose or putting a reserve tank near the regulator that this uses as i don’t think quite enough air is getting to it after passing through my piping and 50 foot air hose. If you have a smaller contractors compressor don’t bother.Over all great product. We’ll see how it holds up over time.

This works much quicker than my Festool random orbit sander. There is no way to attach a vacuum, so I use a fan to blow the dust away from the work (and me). If you put the compressor in a separate room, it makes for very quick and very quiet sanding.

Good product IF you have a big enough compressor to use it. I have a 20 gal 4 scfm @90 psi and it couldn’t keep up.

I shouldn’t complain since the Dynabrade I am used too is 4 times the price. Get what you pay for and this does do the job. It just sucks more air, vibrates more and doesn’t cut as fast. Since time is money, technically the Dynabrade version, though 4 times the price, will pay for itself in a short time. This version is more for home use or the hobbyist. The way it vibrates and makes more noise bouncing around. Im guessing it will not last 1/4th the time either. But I can not review that part just yet. Overall for the price it does the job. Still I give it 3 stars to offset all the ridiculous 5 star reviews. Good example of “You get what you pay for”

Strip paint or knock down body filler. Good for aggressive body work.
